Earth Science data archives are extending from a few years to decades and their scientific value is continuously increasing. The need to preserve them without time limitation and to keep the archived data accessible and usable by current and future generations is worldwide recognized.

Long-term accessibility and  usability  of Earth Science and Observation data requires that not only sensed data but also the associated knowledge (e.g. technical and scientific documentation, algorithms, data handling procedures,  etc.) is properly preserved and made accessible and interoperable between different scientific communities.

This site section provides you a brief overview of the Earth Science repositories which are represented inside the SCIDIP-ES consortium and some of the main issues they are facing in their everyday work to properly preserve Earth Science data.
